A New Media Adventure:
From Puppy to Partner is a semester-long journalism project completed as part of a New Media class at California State University, Northridge during the Spring 2012 semester. I partnered with Guide Dogs of America to tell the story of how the organization uses "man's best friend" to help visually impaired people regain their independence. Throughout the semester I blogged, tweeted, wrote a feature article and produced audio, video and photo stories highlighting a guide dog's transformation from that of a curious puppy to a specially trained partner.

About the Author:
Stephanie Colman has a ten-year history of public relations and writing experience in an agency, in-house setting and freelance setting. She has worked with a variety of clients including non-profit, education, healthcare and consumer. In 2002, she accepted the opportunity to turn a hobby into a career, forming a strategic partnership with a professional dog training school. Working as a pet dog trainer, she gained a solid education in learning theory and behavior modification. An unusual and bold career move, it afforded numerous opportunities to utilize her public relations and strategic planning skills to help grow and promote the business, while helping her develop solid presentation and instructional skills as she taught novel behaviors to two different species at the same time. Her dog training tips can be found online via an archived series of bi-weekly segments for KNBC's "Today in LA." She is the official San Fernando Valley Dogs Examiner and a regular contributor to Whole Dog Journal, where her article on police K9 training was recently named Best Article, Behavior and Training by the Dog Writers Association of America.
Currently, Stephanie is working toward a master's degree in mass communication.
